Simon's Red Warriors
"Don't worry, we got you. This is where he belongs."
On Thursday May 30, I called Friendship Circle and asked if there was any way for Simon to spend his ESY (Extended School Year) with them. Our district was having staffing issues and I didn't feel their alternative was the right fit for Simon. Rabbi Yosef Peysin, Friendship Circle’s Program Director, assured me, “Don’t worry, we got you. This is where he belongs.” On June 7 Yosef texted me simply: “It’s all set.” In a week not only including Shabbat but also shortened by Shavuot, he had talked to the district and put it together.
Our journey with Friendship Circle began in August of 2023, when Simon and I attended a BBQ - our first official Friendship Circle event. Ever since that BBQ, Friendship Circle is where Simon has his home away from home. After the BBQ, Simon attended the end of summer camp, started attending the Kulanu Hebrew School program 2 afternoons a week and Sundays, Sunday Circle, and all vacation camps. He loves it, because he belongs.
And it's not just Simon who has found a home through Friendship Circle. After the BBQ, I met with the Family Supports Coordinator. The help I received getting different resources and support has been amazing. Not only that, we also met Molly O’Neill, the Program Coordinator and BEST babysitter ever!
Friendship Circle dramatically benefits children with special needs and their families. It brings friends into their lives and enhances their social skills. It provides hope and sorely needed respite for families. It changes the lives of teen volunteers by showing them the impact they can make on their community.
In other words, "They Got Us.” All of us.
We'd love if you could come walk with us in support of this incredible organization on September 8, 2024. Please consider making a donation. Every dollar helps Friendship Circle continue its amazing work.
Thank you,
Jeremy & Simon
